I’ve been swamped with a big project for the last week and a half, and during that time, things have slowly gone downhill (and to some extent, rightfully so… no one pays me big bucks to clean my house, you know!). The project finished up this morning, and then the mess started getting to me.
That’s my desk, where I need to sit and do creative and productive things. The junk was getting distracting, so while I was on a teleseminar call this afternoon, I started thinking about what I could do about it.
The how is predictably boring. I took things that were laying around and put them away. I did, however, get some new office organizational items at Office Depot last week (I guess the mess bothered me even in my “buried” state), and today I figured out how to use those better.
There’s still room for improvement, but this is much more “breathable” than it was before!

mmmm clean desk.
my goal is to keep my desk clean at work this quarter. if not i’ll have to join tackle it tuesday.
WOOOOW!! that is Awesome!!! so inspiring.
thanks for joining with us in our tackling!
Wow! Looks great! Do you find yourself working at the desk more? Looks wonderful!
The desk is where I do my daily work, so I’m here whether I like the environment or not…. but I like the environment a lot better now!
It’s a lot nicer to work in an open space.

at work, I periodicly clean my desk. my problem is paper. I put notes on everything, on the back of confidential forms, on the front of someones review i’m working. I write on my desk if it was convenient.
at any rate, I periodicly go through and get rid of all the clutter. I do a quick once over and toss everything I can get my hands on. if it may have some future value, I put that in a stack on the back corner of my desk. after 2 or 3 iterations of something making it to the stack, I toss the stack.
it is pretty effective. and i’m always so much happier when I through away junk. =)
ok… a little story. a broken barcode scanner has been plugged into a production machine for years. this scanner causes the computer to reboot at random. I got fed up with it, and gave it to someone, who’s first reponse was tell me to get it off their desk. after a 2 second pause, they picked it up and threw a $500 scanner in the trash and continued working.
there is alot to learn from that.
its been a long week. don’t bother reading the post again, as I can assure you there you will find very little intelegence in it.
