Had a good weekend, but feel like death warmed over this morning. I’m coming down with either a sinus infection or a head cold, and I’m just glad to be working from home. Too bad self-employment doesn’t provide benefits like sick time.

Going to keep it light today and see if the brain fog dissipates after a while…

Most Important Tasks

• Call the City of L.A. and try to figure out why they’re demanding thousands of dollars in taxes from me (despite the fact that I’m, you know, in Idaho)
• Finish and launch the new theme for TweetStyle
• Pay my outstanding bill to one of my designers and get him started on/prepared for the next project (depending on whether or not the client got me their materials over the weekend)

The reward

A nap.

Yesterday was a smashing success. I battered through loads of resistance and came out with my MITs done. I’ve already ordered my book.

I’m on a new idea rampage and have several I’d like to pursue. That’s usually slightly dangerous as I end up dropping things I already am working on, and the pattern repeats about every three or four months, so I don’t actually launch anything.

Accompanying the new idea rampage is the inevitable domain name rampage. So many good domain names available, so little time to develop them all! Must… resist…

In other news, Daniel and I went to KTSY’s donor banquet and listener appreciation concert last night. We picked the days we want to sponsor this year: International Talk Like a Pirate Day (which also happens to be our anniversary) and William Wilberforce’s birthday (last year we did Leap Day and Pi Day).

The concert part was excellent. The band 33 Miles played, and despite having a harrowing day of travel, did a great job. I particularly appreciated their emphasis on worship and God—unfortunately I’ve seen many Christian bands who seem like they’re mostly there to have fun, be stars, etc. and God is kind of an afterthought. This was refreshing.

Most Important Tasks

• A bit of client work (another couple of upgrades, and a requested template tweak)
• Set up my blogging course on a public server and get membership plugin working with it
• Spend at least one hour on a new theme for a client

The reward

Two domains.

Right now I have three major client projects in the works, I’m writing an ebook (due to my editor on Wednesday), and I’ve signed up for Jimmy D. Brown’s Six Figure Formula coaching, which starts today. I’m also helping some friends organize and promote a 300-mile, 5-day bike ride (meeting today) and am in the middle of about six smaller client projects. Oh, yeah, and I’m supposed to be launching my new site and doing some business development work that will make my life easier down the road.

Aaaaauughh!

Today I am going to focus on doing just a small list of (big) things:

• Finish writing, entering, and first-draft-editing ebook chapters three and four, and send to my editor
• Read and follow the first lesson of the S.F.F. course
• Attend bike ride meeting
• Clear inbox (48 messages, most of which require some action or response)

I really want to add more items to that list, because I have so much more to do, but I think that’s realistically all I can handle in the next eight or nine hours. If I get it all done, I can always do more! Part of dealing with email will be communicating my slipping schedule to affected clients.

The big challenge will be not getting distracted. My inbox alone contains enough distractions to suck up the whole day, so I’m going to take Mark Forster’s approach and create a backlog of non-essential items that I can do later (like reading other e-courses), just to get them out of my immediate view.

I’m also going to turn chat off for today. I’ve just started following some ladies on Twitter that I’d really like to get to know, but I’m going to have to save that for another day when I can give it my full attention.

When I complete my tasks for today, I will reward myself with… um… man, I’m so mentally busy I can’t think of anything non-food-related that I want right now. Okay, I will reward myself with permission to read all of my neglected blog feeds, and check my blog stats.

Furthermore, when I get my finished draft of my ebook to my editor on Wednesday, I will get my hair cut on Thursday or Friday.

On the upside, I’ve already succeeded in clearing my clogged kitchen sink. That’s got to count for something!

I eventually realized I was never going to launch the blasted site if I refused to lower my standards a bit. I’m a big fan of the motto “Ready, fire, aim” but sometimes it’s easier said than done. I got the core stuff functioning, but decided to launch without finishing my main site and without the badges.

I need this site to start making me money, and then I’ll be able to justify the time needed to add the other features. Of course, I still need to get my main site perfected functional, but that shouldn’t delay the money-making part of this site.

So today, my “must do” tasks revolve around finishing this site launch. I have already made some progress by inviting some friends to mention the site, but I’m also going to:

• Sign up for two pay-per-click ad networks and get an ad running
• Send my news to Startup Princess for their weekly news round-up
• Write announcement blog posts on both of my relevant blogs

I’m also going to do the rest of my 19-item to-do list!
